What you should know about visiting Neuschwanstein Castle

Updated: Feb 6

What do know before you go:

Neuschwanstein Castle can only be visited as part of a guided tour .

Tickets for Neuschwanstein Castle are available online at www.hohenschwangau.de (booking fee 2.50 euros ) and on site at the ticket Center Hohenschwangau (depending on availability).

If you are going during peak hours I would recommend purchasing tickets ahead of time!

Tickets on sale at the Ticket Center April to 15 October: 8 am-4 pm 16 October to March: 9 am-3 pm

The courtyard of the castle can currently only be visited as part of a castle tour.

Due to the ongoing restoration work, filming in the interior of Neuschwanstein Castle is unfortunately not possible until further notice - even outside of the regular opening hours .

Restaurants / multi-vision show:

On the second floor "Café & Bistro" is located and you can get some refreshments after your guided tour, they also offer a free multi-vision show on King Ludwig II and his famous castles.

Just outside the gates of Neuschwanstein Castle you will find their franchised restaurant:

Schlossrestaurant Neuschwanstein Neuschwansteinstraße 17 87645 Hohenschwangau www.schlossrestaurant-neuschwanstein.de

Best time of year to visit:

November through April typically have the lowest crowds (except during the holiday seasons of Christmas and Easter). Traveling here in winter months there is the chance to see the castle covered in snow, so make sure to pack accordingly! Spring seasons have an increased chance of rain and summer of course is the high season. Personally, my favorite time to visit is October with all of the fall foliage and cooler temperatures, it makes for an easy hike to Neuschwanstein.
